Quick answer: Wash liquid jersey hijabs in cold water, by hand or on a gentle machine cycle, with similar colours and no bleach. Hang them to dry in the shade and use a cool iron only if needed. Because our liquid jersey is 93% polyester and 7% spandex, avoiding high heat helps the fabric keep its stretch.

Good care keeps your hijabs soft, stretchy and bright for longer. The good news is that liquid jersey is one of the easiest hijab fabrics to look after.

Hand washing

  1. Fill a basin with cold water and a small amount of mild detergent.
  2. Gently swish the hijab for a minute or two. Avoid scrubbing or wringing.
  3. Rinse in clean cold water until no soap remains.
  4. Press out excess water by rolling the hijab in a towel.

Machine washing

  • Place the hijab in a mesh laundry bag to reduce friction and snagging.
  • Use a cold, gentle or delicate cycle.
  • Wash with similar colours, especially the first few times for deep shades like Maroon or Navy Blue.
  • Skip bleach and fabric softeners with strong additives.

Cold water, a gentle cycle and shade to dry: three simple rules for long-lasting liquid jersey.

Drying

Hang your hijab to dry, ideally in the shade or indoors. Strong direct sun can fade colours over time. Avoid high-heat tumble drying, which can weaken the spandex that gives liquid jersey its stretch.

Ironing and steaming

Liquid jersey drapes smoothly and rarely needs ironing. If it does, use a cool iron or a handheld steamer, and hanging the hijab in a steamy bathroom works too.

Makeup and foundation marks

Treat marks as soon as you can. Dab, rather than rub, with a little mild detergent and cold water, then wash as normal.

Storing your hijabs

Fold or roll them in a drawer, or hang them on a scarf hanger so they are easy to see. Keep them away from rough surfaces and velcro that could snag the knit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put a jersey hijab in the dryer?

It is best to avoid tumble drying. High heat can weaken the spandex in the fabric. Hang it to dry in the shade instead.

Does a liquid jersey hijab need ironing?

Rarely. Liquid jersey drapes smoothly and light creases usually relax when it is hung up. If needed, use a cool iron or a steamer.

How often should I wash my hijab?

Wash it after a few wears, or after one wear on a hot or sweaty day. Regular gentle washing keeps it fresh without wearing out the fabric.
